Tara and Julie’s Great Adventures in Pretty Penny

“Where the Paws Take Us: Life, Laughter, and Left Turns in Pretty Penny”

I’m Tara, the navigator on this four-month adventure in our motorhome, Pretty Penny—named not just for her charm, but because she constantly costs one. Julie, the planner and co-pilot, is a retired service tech who can fix almost anything Pretty Penny throws at us (except her thirst for fuel and her flair for drama). We’ve packed up our lives—and our two dogs, Ali and Lucy, plus our very vocal cat, Jasper—and hit the road in search of national parks, scenic hikes, and just enough cell service to Google “how to reset RV toilet.”

With over 20 national parks on the agenda, we imagined peaceful trails, cool breezes, and magical sunsets. What we got—at least this week—is hiking in 100-degree heat while swatting bugs the size of hummingbirds. The dogs love it. Jasper, not so much. He’s made it very clear—with nonstop meowing—that this was not his idea.

Julie keeps the rig running with her toolkit and nerves of steel, while I manage the maps, snacks, and our increasingly testy travel playlist. So far, we’ve made a few wrong turns, a lot of right memories, and discovered that dog hair and duct tape are holding most of this trip together.

— Tara (The Navigator)

P.S. If you hear loud meowing and louder laughter at the next campground, that’s us. We’ll be the ones under the awning, fanning ourselves with a trail map and wondering what day it is.

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
